Outside of Tokyo, we rode the ropeway (an aerial tram) up an active volcanic area in Owakudani, and journied on a short hike through sulphur fumes that takes you to the steaming pools of water. Local vendors boil eggs that turn inky black from the sulphur and local legend says they add 7 years to your life.
After our snack, we took the ropeway down the opposite side of Mount Hakone to Lake Ashinoko, where lake was calm, views beautiful, and where we experienced one of the most peaceful boat rides I’ve ever taken.
