EAT SEE SHOP: Downtown LA's Arts District

January 30, 2017

Before her family of two grew into a family of three, our creative director lived in the cool, urban Art's District of downtown LA. She and her husband recently went back to to visit their old stomping grounds, this time with baby in tow! They spent the day exploring the constantly evolving landscape and came back with some priceless tips for a hip family-friendly day in LA.

EAT: Brunch at Manuela – locally sourced, organic fare with a southern twist. The chilaquiles  are great, and the charred squash is amazing (topped with pomegranate seeds!). A full bar and housemade sodas make a great start to the day!

SEE: The entire restored Globe Mills complex is a work of art. Check out the central courtyard with sculpture garden, plus an edible garden and chicken coop.  For kids, there’s an installation in which children can make something (literally anything) and then hang it on the scaffolding of the structure. Additionally, there is a beautiful gallery by Hauser & Wirth, specializing in contemporary international art, and a print studio. SHOP: LA’s first ARTBOOK location has tons of amazing books on design, photography, and every other inspiring topic imaginable.  And a small kid’s section with beautifully illustrated books for the littles.
